Sports Briefs: Security guard shot at NFL linebackers's party
From local and wire dispatches
Police are investigating the shooting of a security guard at a pool party given by NFL linebackers LaVar Arrington and Julian Peterson Saturday night. Investigators don't believe Arrington was near the spot where James Sidney was shot and injured. It was not clear whether Peterson was at the party. No one has been charged in the shooting and there are no suspects.
The New England Patriots signed free-agent kick returner Chad Morton, whose right knee was injured last year and he appeared in just six games for the Washington Redskins. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. They also signed free agent guard Bryan Anderson and two 2005 draft picks, linebacker Ryan Claridge and quarterback Matt Cassel.
A Honolulu businessman, charged with defrauding the NFL of more than $500,000, has been placed on five years probation. Sports and business promoter Manuel Sanchez also was fined $25,000 and ordered to perform 250 hours of community service. The NFL sued the former chief executive officer with Tickets Plus in 2003, alleging it was owed $474,000 in Pro Bowl tickets sold by the company and a $100,000 event sponsorship fee. Sanchez has paid the NFL $557,000 since he was charged.
